FINAL YEAR PROJECT-Design, Fabrication & Installation of Solar Collector in Vapor Absorption Unit

The concept of the project was to preheat ammonia-water solution entering the generator section of vapor absorption unit through an external heat source which was abundant such as solar energy. A parabolic collector was employed which heated an oil running through its tube. A double pipe heat exchanger was designed and fabricated in vapor absorption unit which connected the parabolic collector and the unit. The hot fluid i.e. oil heated the cold fluid (ammonia-water solution) running in the inner pipe of heat exchanger. The preheated solution entered the generator section and the heat input required by the generator to separate the ammonia-water solution was decreased. In this way natural gas was conserved and a renewable energy source was utilized.
