Principle Engineer: Electric Vehicle Operation EV/BEV - Cape Town, South Africa


1. Position : Principle Engineer: Electric Vehicle Operation 

2. Reporting to : Manager: Vehicle Engineering 

3. Job purpose : 

To organise, drive and technically lead the Electric Vehicle Operation (EVO) subject to maturity at the Start of Production (SoP). This responsibility includes the definition of Electric Vehicle (EV) specific operational concepts that will fulfil user and fleet requirements while ensuring compliancy with energy providers and related organisations. To manage the development the High Voltage (HV) off-board equipment required during the operating and servicing of EVs. 

4. Summary of Duties : (Principal accountabilities and Activities) 

a. To establish the need and details for charging equipment and to communicate with the power utility company/ies. 
b. To establish the technical need and details related to battery leasing implementation. 
c. To develop mission profiles for use by the simulation group for performance predictions. 
d. To coordinate cross-functional implementation of the EVO requirements and to ensure the HV off-board equipment will operate satisfactorily (practically, simply and safely) on the vehicle with existing infrastructure. 
e. To establish and manage the vehicle running cost model. 
f. To define the requirements, identify the development partners and manage the development of the HV off-board equipment: 
i. Double-speed charger. 
ii. High-speed charger. 
iii. Transport battery. 

5. Knowledge and experience: 

a. Electrical Engineering degree with at least 10 years system engineering experience. 
b. Development engineering experience, power electronics preferable. 
c. Ability to identify, coordinate and manage the contributors to the EVO subject. 
d. Ability to communicate and represent the EVO subject to the Project Manager. 
e. Ability to solve technical and organisational conflicts within the EVO subject. 
f. Exposure to field operation of EVs preferred.

Principle Engineer / Technologist / Scientist: Human Machine Interface EV/BEV - Cape Town, South Africa


2. Reporting to : Manager: Vehicle Engineering 

3. Job purpose : 

To organise, drive and technically lead the Human Machine Interface (HMI) subject to maturity at the Start of Production (SoP). This responsibility defines the interface concept between the user and the vehicle, which includes the definition of any interaction or information exchange. It therefore has an impact on every system with a user interface. 

4. Summary of Duties : (Principal accountabilities and Activities) 

a. To develop the user operation concept of the vehicle, including: 
i. Touch, Appearance, Lighting & Coordination (TALC). 
ii. Definition of the instrument panel, central display / radio functionality and content. 
b. To integrate the exchange of information in a self-explanatory intuitive manner (maximised simplification): 
i. What information (status, confirmation, alarm ...)? 
ii. How (chime, light, display, symbols, analogue, digital ...)? 
iii. When (at start-up, when requested, continuous ...)? 
c. To manage the development of the User Manual. 

5. Knowledge and experience: 

a. Technical / Scientific qualification with at least 10 years relevant experience. 
b. Ability to integrate requirements from marketing, styling, interior design and electric vehicle operation in a constructive manner. 
c. Ability to identify, coordinate and manage the contributors to the HMI subject. 
d. Ability to communicate and represent the HMI subject to the Project Manager. 
e. Ability to solve technical and organisational conflicts within the HMI subject.

Principle Engineer / Scientist: Noise, Vibration & Harshness EV/BEV - Cape Town, South Africa


2. Reporting to : Manager: Vehicle Engineering 

3. Job purpose : 

To organise, drive and technically lead the Noise, Vibration & Harshness (NVH) subject to maturity at the Start of Production (SoP). This responsibility defines the NVH targets and ensures that the vehicle meets the required NVH levels. 

4. Summary of Duties : (Principal accountabilities and Activities) 

a. To define the NVH strategy through: 
i. The allocation of the NVH targets to vehicle systems. 
ii. The management of the development timeline. 
b. To develop the NVH analysis model including: 
i. The power train stressing and body / chassis bending. 
ii. The verification of the modelling through the necessary NVH / acoustic measurements. 
c. To mature the vehicle development by confirming the acceptability of the sound (noise) experienced from a customer viewpoint (inside and outside) under all driving conditions. 

5. Knowledge and experience: 

a. Technical / Scientific qualification with at least 10 years relevant experience. 
b. Ability to identify, coordinate and manage the contributors to the HVH subject. 
c. Ability to communicate and represent the HVH subject to the Project Manager. 
d. Ability to solve technical and organisational conflicts within the HVH subject.

Job - 4 


Principle Engineer: Simulation & Analysis EV/BEV - Cape Town, South Africa


2. Reporting to : Manager: Vehicle Engineering 

3. Job purpose : 

To organise, drive and technically lead the Simulation & Analysis Integration (SAI) subject, which coordinates the simulation activities in the different subjects and performs vehicle-level simulation such as energy consumption in order to provide catalogue values. 

4. Summary of Duties : (Principal accountabilities and Activities) 

a. To define and maintain the master list of simulation boundary conditions and load cases for use across the subjects. 
b. To coordinate the simulation activities in all areas ensuring appropriate integration of all components. 
c. To manage the vehicle-level simulations used to define / manage / optimise the key specifications such as: 
i. Energy consumption. 
ii. Catalogue performance values (acceleration, top speed, hill climbing etc.). 
iii. Efficiency factors. 
d. To ensure the correlation of the simulation predictions and actual performance measurements. 
e. To perform the thermal management in the vehicle compartment. 
f. To perform airflow management through the vehicle (radiator, condenser, battery compartment). 

5. Knowledge and experience: 

a. Mechanical / Electrical Engineering degree with at least 10 years mathematical modelling and simulation experience. 
b. Ability to identify, coordinate and manage the contributors to the SAI subject. 
c. Ability to communicate and represent the SAI subject to the Project Manager. 
d. Ability to solve technical and organisational conflicts within the SAI subject.
